Joan Macy School

The mission of the Joan Macy School (JMS) is to provide a safe and enriched environment where students can develop academic, social and vocational skills that will enable them to transition independently and successfully into

the community.

JMS was established in 1989 as a specialized non-public school for at risk adolescent girls in the residential program of David & Margaret Youth and Family Services.  Since then JMS has expanded its programs to also serve community students grades 1-12 referred by local school districts.

JMS is a certified non-public school recognized by the California Department of Education to provide Special Education, Behavior Intervention, Counseling & Guidance, and also Language/Speech Development in accordance with each student's Individualized Educational Plan.

Joan Macy School works with children and adolescents whose needs and problems can be quite complex. Our students may have been identified as displaying emotionally difficulties, having a learning disability, or displaying maladaptive behavior. Many have anxiety, hyperactivity, impulse control disorders, an array of emotional difficulties, auditory and visual processing delays and behavior disorders.
